Mission Statement
Bio-Waves Inc. is a small business dedicated to providing scientifically-based solutions to address complex problems in the marine environment with a focus on the field of marine bio-acoustics. We conduct research, provide monitoring and mitigation services, develop and utilize new hardware and software technologies, perform reviews and use the best available scientific and engineering methods to provide solutions for our clients in the government, academia, and the private sector. We also promote the advancement of the biological and physical marine sciences through educational outreach and professional training.
Who We Are
We are a diverse team of scientists and engineers with expertise in bio-acoustics, marine ecology, marine mammal biology, ocean acoustics and acoustic technologies, and geographic information systems (GIS). Our experience and capabilities encompass areas as wide-ranging as: the effects of noise on marine mammals; the development and application of web-based and GIS technologies to manage living marine resources; the development and application of electronic tagging technologies to study marine mega-vertebrates; and the use of "traditional techniques" to investigate and monitor marine mammals.
What We Do
Bio-waves conducts research, develops new technologies, monitors living marine resources, and mitigates the effects of human activities on these resources. We specialize in studying, monitoring and mitigating the impacts of anthropogenic sounds on marine mammals using acoustic-based technologies. Bio-Waves uses the latest technologies to collect data and the best available methods to analyze them. When suitable technologies or methods are unavailable, we will develop them. Bio-waves prepares and reviews technical reports and scientific papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as environmental documentation (e.g. EA's and EIS's) and monitoring plans relating to living marine resources. We also conduct reviews of biological resources, technologies, and the latest scientific methods and data. As part of our mission to advance the marine biological sciences and technologies, we also provide educational and outreach services.
